Depends on the setting and the story, of course, but if I'm not doing anything special with them, I'm probably on the baby name sites browsing by gender/culture for something appropriate. More based on the look and 'sound' of the name than the meaning; I like a name that looks good on the page...

I primarily use Obsidian both for notetaking and for my first draft, and then write my second drafts onward in LibreOffice. But if you want a Google Docs alternative that is specifically in-browser, or can be accessed for free on another device, my go-to is Ellipsus.

Ideas are, to me, the basic materials of building a story, so it's hard to imagine how someone could use a tool - AI or otherwise - to generate a starting idea and still be able to extrapolate on that enough to write a story around it? Every character, scene, line of dialogue - it's ideas all...
