My favorite thing to do to immortal or very powerful characters are things worse than death. Let your imagination run wild—one of my favorites is imprisonment.

I like the idea of having two ways to gain magic, so lean toward external access. However, the biggest thing I'd be interested in, is what extreme lengths the character would go to acquire the magic? Would they steal? Kill? Sacrifice treasured things?
