My name is Hossein Azad. 21 years old. I'm from Iran and unfortunately still live in it. I studied at Hashemi Nezhad(highschool and middle school) in Mashhad which among others in Tehran and Isfahan is considered to be the golden standard here. Here we have a few general examination tests to get to the best universities, They're called Konkur. I participated in the one about foreign languages and was placed 57 nationwide. I enrolled in Ferdowsi university, my major was English literature. I quit mid semester and wandered for about three years, lost and depressed for reasons that I won't bore you with. What kept me alive in my darkest hours, what gave me my identity after I left my inherited religion and dilapidated culture was reading. Somewhere along the way I thought I need to contribute to, even it doesn't become my career it's something worth pursuing. The problem is I don't want to do it in persian, mostly because it doesn't have the same reach as English but also because books are not appreciated here like they used to. Most hits are not from native authors but translated works or classics like poems. Most people don't even read these, it's a disaster. There are other reasons too like lack of community, there are bookclubs for reading but writing? A hard find and they're mostly focused on poems or essays. So I've come here and am actively looking for communities like this to improve myself. That's it, I guess. I can say more but this should be enough. Oh and my favorite authors are Sanderson, Martin, Abercrombie, Ruocchio.
