Hello!

Just wanted to introduce myself before posting. I'm working on a fantasy family saga set in a secondary world. My story and world are based loosely on the Judeo-Christian Mythos along with some Scandinavian and Slavic mythology - there are angels, elves, a firebird, a character who is a mashup of Idun and Eve ... and a tomte (though no one has seen him he leaves footprints in the snow...) My influences range from Russian theology to Lord Dunsany to the Swedish fairy tales I read to my daughters. I'm of predominantly Scandinavian and Slavic ethnicity, a Lutheran with Byzantine sympathies and a Jesuit education, and love drawing on my cultural background for my stories and world building.

Fantasy I love to read includes classics like Dunsany, Tolkien, TH White, and Le Guin, more modern epic fare like ASOIAF, and the cool things that Valente, Gaiman, and Helen Oyeyemi are doing. Non-fantasy I love to read includes especially Russian classics, magical realism like Gabriel Garcia Marquez, old fashioned sagas like The Thornbirds and Lonesome Dove, and literary fiction with a strong voice like Hilary Mantel's Cromwell novels or Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

I'm a therapist by trade, an equestrian for fun, and have a second masters in theology. I'm currently at home "momming" most of the time with my preschoolers, but as soon as schools starts I should have more time to write!

Hail and well met AElisabet
Good to have you here.
I hope you enjoy it here and find the forum as as helpful and supportive as I do.
[ And I hope the fairy-tales you tell to your daughters are nice and scary  as all good fairy-tales should be]
