Well, that's unlikely. Personally, I'm an elitist jerk and I tend to prefer AAA games. It's the graphics. I may be half magpie, but it's the shiny. I can't not look at the shiny. Same goes for special editions and the Game of the Year bundles.

We had a Sega Genesis. Jenny could speedrun Sonic II in about 30 minutes. We also had Jurassic Park. Probably still would have it, except we also had toddlers who accidentally dumped a bag of sugar on it, then tried to clean up with a wet washcloth.

To this day, I still play Age of Empires 2: Age of Kings. I like to create little scenarios when I play that, like back stories. It's almost like playing Dungeons and Dragons with myself.
Hell, I'll do this at the store. I've also been known to just stand in the middle of an aisle making notes and laughing at my own jokes.

I've got custom-built retro gaming computers tuned for everything from early-90s to late-2010s, PC and Mac...

I recalll playing a quest game, with basically zero graphics. It used keyboard symbols, like @{_~ and so on. This was late at night, on a VAX DEC machine, while waiting for an experment to run. I doubt there is any way to play that today, nor do I think anyone would want to. There was Digger on a PC ( I think a 286) as well. I am dating myself.

Space Ace was always kind of lame. For the type of game it was, Dragon's Lair was much better.
X-wing is still one of my favorite games ever. I was disappointed that Tie-Fighter was actually a better game (coming out later), cause I still wanted to fly X-wings.
I remember going to the store (when games were still sold in stores), Babbages, and buying Wing Commander, only to have X-wing come out the next week, and I was like...Doh...I'd rather have X-wing. Both were good, but X-wing was just cooler.
But it all does not matter now, The prequel movies and Disney killed the lore.

Wow! Wing Commander brings back some memories. I would visit a buddy who had the gamer's PC setup - I think it was a 486, with a massive 15" monitor - sit around drinking and watching this game. I remember being totally blown away by the graphics... ;p
My go to for years was Fallout (the first two). I'd drag them out every other year and thrash them.

One of the older games I'd like to play is Mist? Though I heard the puzzles in that one are brutal.

Mist had a strange surreal feel to it ive not seen since. But i dont think it was much of a game. It did what it could for its time. It would feel quite limiting today. The still picture nature of it is clunky.

You might like Endocopia, very surreal game throughout with very good puzzles, it's more of a 'ride' than a game (like most Point and Click-ers are) but there's a bit of game-y elements. Just some forewarning, the music slaps and everything that looks like a clickable is lol

Games of a similar feel cane out by lucas arts for a while. I forget them all but sam and max hit the road and full throttle were two. Mostly puzzle games with a type of story line. Lucas arts always made good games back then. I dont know about today though.
