How..

do you introduce yourself to a forum full of writers?

Gushingly eloquent, overflowing with purple prose (I have been reading already), annoyingly casual in a 'sup homies kind of way to imply an overbearing sense of confidence and belonging?

Would devastating charm work on what is quite clearly the most useful resource and community for aspiring and established fantasy writers on the planet, is is this all a bit to try-hard and I should just go for the no non-nonsense approach.

Hi I am Simon and despite not having written a single creative thing since I was at school 20 plus years ago (board reports notwithstanding!) I want to write.

I have two tiny problems, the first being I have just been diagnosed with an incurable cancer and the second that I have no idea where to start or how to acomplish writing anything longer than a shopping list.

Help?

Simon

I'm kidding, of course. Welcome. This is a great community, and sure you'll find plenty of help here.

Sad to hear about the cancer, but hey, maybe they're wrong about the incurable, and if not, you can still have a damn good time :)

I started by just starting with one idea, and writing (terribly) until I finished the first draft. Now I'm going over it, and writing it much better. So there's that way, or you can get everything outlined while you learn to write on here.

Good luck with the cancer and writing, Faze.

Hello Faze
Welcome to Mythic Scribes.
The want and will to write are most important.
Do what most of us do when first here - leap on in blindly and pretend we know what we're talking about :p.
Don't sit on the cats and you should do fine...
Good luck with everything.

Dammit! there should be a "send to Editor" button rather than "Submit Post"

Anyway the cancer is a bit of a downer, Non-hodgkins Lymphoma, and certainly something I will have to live with for the rest of my life but at least it has given me the requisite kick up the backside to do some of the things I have pondered doing for years.

thanks Joe - I'll keep an eye out for the cats!
