Making someone disabled as a punishment

For my punishment, I was thinking instead of an man-made chemical, like what "acid" seems to imply, an extract from some sort of plant would be used to replace the acid for blinding and deafening people. Probably a plant that's toxic to some degree, since I don't know of something safe to eat that blinds or deafens you.

Off hand I can't think of any food or drink or drug that will cause deafness. There are certainly ototoxic drugs out there, but probably nothing that would cause a spectacular and profound deafness.

Wood alcohol (methanol), when consumed in even small quantities, causes blindness and other central nervous system problems. Even at relatively small doses it can kill. That's probably a good substitute for pouring acid in someone's eyes. Also has the added terror of the criminal not really knowing if the punishment will kill him or just maim him...

Can you drip wood alcohol in someone's eyes to make them blind? (That rhymed! I should write some rhymes for ALL DAH BROTHAZ IN DA HOOD, YO!!)

I mention things that were safe to eat in the context of plants because I think many plants that are not poisonous have culinary uses. Some more mildly poisonous plants can have medicinal uses as well. I wasn't specifically talking about ingesting something to make them blind or deaf.

I accidently posted my response to self-harmers being punished for being punished twice, but luckily I got the staff to remove it.

Oh, that's a shame! I should like to have seen the response and explore the matter further!

And yeah, what a world indeed! I never said The World was an eutopia!

I made two posts saying "self-harmers are punished for being punished?", saying basically the same thing, so it's not important.
