Ah, the Church of St John in Ranui. Ranui is part of Santa Maddalena in the Val di Funes. In the backrgound the Odle massif. Val Gardena is the other side of the massif.
I guess that was just my first impression. I've been in northern Italy (and southern Germany) a couple of times, so I did recognize the view. I was only today years old, though, when I learned that these were called the Dolomites only for the past century or two. Before that it was just the Sud Tyrol and before that it was Rhaetia. But Dolomites is named after a fellow with the catchy name Dieudonné Sylvain Guy Tancrède de Gratet de Dolomieu. So I guess we can be glad the mountains aren't called the Guy Mountains.
